Description

The UltraClean^® Water DNA Isolation Kit is designed to isolate high quality genomic DNA from water borne microorganisms present in small or large volume water samples.

Water samples are filtered through a provided 0.22 µm or 0.45 µm filter membrane. Alternately, you can use your own water filters and purchase the kit without filters. This cellulose acetate membrane is housed within a filter cup and can be easily removed for immediate use or stored for later processing. Filter cups have a 100 ml capacity but can be reloaded to filter liters of water. This filtration method captures microorganisms greater than the size of the filter. The filter is then added to a water bead tube containing beads, bead solution and lysis solution. This kit requires only a vortex, our Vortex Adapter, a vacuum source and a centrifuge capable of spinning 15 ml and 50 ml tubes. MO BIO's water kits are used by the USEPA, USDA and municipal water districts for water analysis.

The principal is to lyse the microorganisms by a combination of chemical and mechanical force against specialized beads. The cellular components are lysed by mechanical action using a specially designed MO BIO Vortex Adapter on a standard vortex. From the lysed cells, the released DNA is bound to a silica spin filter. The filter is washed, and the DNA is recovered in certified DNA-free Tris buffer.
