An economical, easy-to-use kit for efficiently extracting and purifying DNA in small volumes is now available from MO BIO Laboratories, Inc. Capable of providing DNA yields as high as 100%, the UltraClean^® 15 DNA Purification Kit, utilizes highly uniform silica binding beads to purify DNA fragments from TAE or TBE agarose gels. Purification typically takes 10 minutes for reaction solutions and 15 minutes for agarose gels and requires only one wash and elution step. Ethidium bromide, linkers, and labels are removed in the process.

The kit's unique silica binding technology can be used in a batch format to allow the purification of small, medium, or large amounts (up to 1 mg) of DNA and utilizes a simple-to-follow protocol. After electrophoresis, the desired DNA band is cut from an agarose gel and melted in a high polarity chaotropic salt solution. The DNA binds to the UltraBIND silica particles in the presence of UltraSALT and is then pelleted in a microcentrifuge. After centrifuging, the melted agarose is discarded, the pellet is washed once, and the concentrated DNA collected in Tris buffer or water.

The UltraClean^® 15 DNA Purification Kit can be used to purify DNA ranging in size from 60 bp to 50 kb and contains preps for 300 purifications.

The UltraClean^®-htp 96 Well BloodSpin™ DNA Kit is designed to purify genomic and mitochondrial DNA from whole blood (fresh, frozen or stored at 4°C), buffy coat or cultured cells in 96 well plates. The protocol is designed as a centrifugation method and takes less than 45 minutes. Kit isolates DNA greater than 50 kb in length and DNA is ready for PCR, restriction digests, and all downstream applications.

For ease of use, all tubes and reagents required for the procedure are included. In the presence of Proteinase K, blood cells are lysed, and proteins are degraded. In the year of its 11th Anniversary in business, MO BIO Laboratories, Inc. relaunches the UltraClean^® Tissue DNA Kit for isolation of genomic DNA from animal tissues, cultured cells or rodent tails. Samples are homogenized using time-saving, bead beating technology and DNA is recovered using a silica spin column format - all in just 20 minutes. Other kits claim to take just 20 minutes to process a sample but this does not include the time it takes to homogenize the tissue. With other kits, an additional 1-4 hours can be required along with expensive digestion enzymes. Not so with the Mo Bio UltraClean^® Tissue Kit. This procedure is fast, safe and easy to use. No hazardous organic solvents are used and DNA is isolated ready-to-use without the need for ethanol precipitation.

Small beads mechanically disrupt fresh or frozen tissue samples in a rapid and efficient process. Tissue lysates are loaded directly onto a spin filter where DNA selectively binds to the silica membrane while contaminants pass through. Any remaining proteins or enzyme inhibitors are removed by a washing step. Pure DNA is then eluted into certified, DNA-free Tris buffer.

The large scale kit can process up to 500 ml of an LB broth culture and up to 250 ml of a high nutrient broth culture. The kit employs a rapid protocol of only 1.5 hours to process one large scale culture. No drip columns or ethanol precipitations are required with this kit. All steps utilize centrifugation instead of gravity flow. The UltraClean^® Maxi Endotoxin-Free Plasmid Prep Kit is almost half as expensive compared to competitive kits, saving researchers money as well as time. The Kit is also available in Mini and Midi size formats to process 5 or 50 ml cultures.

The procedure is to lyse cells with an improved set of proprietary alkaline lysis reagents. This kit utilizes a silica spin filter method to purify genomic and mitochondrial DNA from whole blood (fresh, frozen or stored at 4°C), buffy coat, or cultured cells in 20 minutes.

In the presence of proteinase K, cells are lysed, and proteins are degraded. DNA is bound to the spin filter due to the high salt nature of the lysis buffer. TB DRY is specifically designed to give high yields of low copy plasmids and extremely high yields of high copy plasmids. Media is pH stabilized with Tris. This increases bacterial growth and leads to higher yields of plasmid DNA. TB DRY^® is formulated to increase cell density by as much as 4 to 7 times over cultures grown in standard LB broth.
